For approximately twenty years I have been tramping, climbing and caving in New Zealand's South Island (the mainland). As an executive member of the New Zealand Alpine Club, chairperson of the local branch and tutor in navigation and survival, I am a strong advocate for personal safety and the protection of the environment.

I am considered to be a skilled and expert climber and have reached the summit of several significant peaks in New Zealand's Southern Alps, including Mount Cook (Aoraki) and Mount Aspiring. As well as climbing I tramp, cave and canyon regularly, not only to maintain my fitness levels but because this is my passion.

Training is essential and our guides have undertaken St. Johns First Aid, Federated Mountain Clubs and Alpine Club training courses, among others, appropriate for leading people in New Zealand's wilderness.

In a blizzard, dangling from a rope or warm and safe in a backcountry hut, you need to have the confidence that your guide is knowledgeable, experienced and reliable (not to mention a good cook).
